What To Expect:
The study group sessions are typically structured as follows:

13 weekly sessions focused on the three capability areas

No study materials are provided specifically from this study group. We are using the Talent Development Body of Knowledge (TDBok) as the group textbook and all members should have access. TDBok is now free to all ATD national members.

Session 1: Finding your L & D Speaking Niche

As the next installment in this professional development series, this session helps L&D professionals transform their interests, experiences, and expertise into a clear, compelling speaking niche. Participants begin by reframing speaking as an act of service—an opportunity to elevate the field and meet real audience needs. They then explore what conferences genuinely look for before moving into guided individual ideation to connect their lived experience to meaningful audience pain points. Small‑group feedback helps refine angles and surface new possibilities before each participant defines their niche and generates 2–3 viable session ideas. The session closes with next‑step guidance on validating topics and building the confidence needed to move from idea to impact.

Session 2: Proposals: How to Craft a Standout Conference Submission

This session continues the series by demystifying the proposal process and equipping L&D professionals with the tools needed to create competitive, compelling submissions. Participants start with an honest look at acceptance rates and common rejection pitfalls, then dissect the core components of high‑quality proposals—including titles, abstracts, and outcomes that resonate with selection committees. The heart of the session is a hands‑on writing lab where attendees draft or refine a real proposal, followed by structured peer feedback aligned to actual selection criteria. The workshop wraps with practical refinement tips, a submission checklist, and strategies to maximize acceptance odds.

Session 3: What Happens After You Are Accepted?

The final session in the speaking-development series prepares L&D professionals for what comes after the “yes.” Participants receive a behind‑the‑scenes look at conference operations—from timelines and communication cycles to speaker expectations and deliverables. The session then shifts into the design essentials needed to build engaging, outcome‑aligned sessions that resonate with adult learners. Through collaborative planning activities, attendees outline their session or redesign an engagement strategy, followed by peer sharing to identify strengths and potential risks. The series concludes with a readiness checklist that equips participants to deliver confident, polished, and high‑impact sessions on any stage.

Central Massachusetts Chapter has been pre-approved by the ATD Certification Institute to offer programs that can be used towards initial eligibility and recertification of the Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) and Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) credentials. This series has been approved for a maximum of 3 points.

As another session in our professional development series, this workshop gives L&D professionals a clear, practical understanding of what makes leadership development programs effective in today’s evolving workplace. The session begins by grounding participants in current leadership trends and capability needs, then explores proven best‑practice models—including experiential learning, coaching‑based development, and peer‑driven approaches. Participants apply these concepts by evaluating a current or past leadership program, identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement.
